SIDE EFFECTS

Thanks! Message sent.

Common side effects from a skin peel are as follows:

  • Reddening of skin is common, this can last for several hours to several days. Using aloe vera gel or a mild gentle moisturizer will speed healing.

  • Skin swelling is normal, apply cool compresses to help the skin return to normal.

  • Skin soreness, skin may become sore and tender, you can apply cool compresses to ease discomfort.

  • Skin peeling will generally occur about 3-5 days AFTER the peel is applied (if he strength is correct and timing is long enough). Peeling can last from 1 day to up to 4 days (depending on your skin type). DO NOT pick or pull at loose skin (this can cause scarring). Apply plenty of moisturizer and/or apply coconut oil and gently rub dead skin off.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, skin peels can trigger a cold sore outbreak (usually only in individuals who carry the HPV virus). Be prepared for a possible outbreak and have cold sore medication handy.

  • Blistering can occur if the strength was too strong or the acids were left on too long. Apply antibiotic cream to blisters and do not pick at them. They will clear up in a few days. Decrease the time on your skin for subsequent peels or dilute peel to lower strength.

  • If your skin is exposed to the sun (without sun protection) darkening of the skin may occur.  Your skin is very sensitive to the sun after a skin peel and an SPF of 30+ should be worn at all times (even in cloudy weather). Dark brown spots can occur if new skin is exposed to direct sun (wear a hat and SPF).
